We firmly believe our family is meant to go on a lasting journey toward sustainable living. We have been at our current property for a few years, and each year, we learn something new, and take on more projects that will lead us to our ultimate goal of providing for ourselves and others..
Our family is full of animal lovers and we are working hard at building up a functional and loving space for any living thing that calls this place home. We breed Doodles. We also rescue and rehabilitate mini horses before sending them to loving forever homes.
We are currently building everything else back up after a devastating barn fire that set us back almost two years. Our new barn is being built and more animals will be coming soon.
Aside from our many dogs, our current residents include our horses Misty and Lacey, some chickens, Nigerian Dwarf goats, five bunnies, and Gato and Luna, the friendly barn cats (as well as a few of their friends).
Some of our goals are to raise our chickens for meat and farm fresh eggs, goats for milk and possibly soaps and lotions (and because they bring pure joy to our family), as well as pigs as pets and to provide meat, and any other animals that may need rescuing or add value to our homesteading mission.
We started our garden growing adventure last spring, and look forward to continuing to add more vegetables and herbs to that this year as well. Our desire with this garden is to provide our family with fresh food during the growing season, and to can up the rest to be used throughout the winter as soups, salsas, and other tasty treats or homemade bread.
Each winter, we heat our home with an outdoor wood burner. We are finding that a little extra work can save a lot of money in the long run. We like to provide our family with a warm and cozy home, as well as create an inviting space for our friends to visit, and this is one small way we can provide such a welcoming environment for all.
Operating a homestead will not only benefit our family with food and self-sustainability, but it will offer up so many learning experiences, opportunities for growth, and a drive to work together in both good times and bad.
There will be many ups and downs along the way, but we are excited to share our homesteading adventures with you on our blog, website, and Instagram page, so be sure to follow us if you’d like to see regular updates on our progress.
Blessings,
